A NEW TWIST TO AN OLD TALE

By...Aly

Once upon a time, there was a sweet young girl named Aly. She was well liked and loved by everyone. As a gift, her grandmother had given her a trenchcoat of black leather and it pleased her very much. She wore it so often that she became known as *Little Black Trenchcoat*. (OMG!! LOL!!)

One day her grandfather, Walter, became quite ill. Aly decided to pay a visit to him and bring him some goodies. He lived in a remote part of the city in an old apartment building. She packed her basket and set out for his apartment. Before leaving, her neighbor Madeline cautioned her to be good and stay on the path.

*Little Black Trenchcoat* promised to heed this warning, and off she went. As she meandered through the nearly deserted streets, she soon crossed paths with an awful Wolf by the name of Paul.

He sized her up and thought she would make a good victim. Easing up beside her, he smiled his wolf-like smile. "Hey there. And just where are you off to on a fine day like this?" He swept his arm out wide to emphasize his statement.

*Little Black Trenchcoat* smiled at him and said, "I am on my way to visit my Grandfather, Walter, as he is quite ill." When the Wolf heard this he was quite pleased *Maybe the old man has some valuables I can... relieve him of.* Continuing to smile in his wolf-like way, he tried again to distract the young lady so he could beat her to Walter's house.

"Look over there... do you see where the wildflowers have grown between the cracks in the pavement? Maybe your grandfather would like some flowers." Paul Wolf pointed towards the straggly flowers. *Little Black Trenchcoat* took childish delight in the suggestion, and skipped over to the flowers to pick them for her grandfather.

Meanwhile, the Wolf sped on ahead to the apartment of Walter. Knocking on the door, he was greated by a gruff voice from within, " Yeah!! Who is it??"

Clearing his throat and raising his voice, the Wolf answered, "It is I, *Little Black Trenchcoat*. " Placing his ear to the door the Wolf heard movement from inside. Just as the door was opened and the weathered face of the older man peered out, the Wolf kicked the door in and placed the grandfather into abeyance.

The Wolf hopped onto the sofa and covered himself with an old quilt to await the arrival of *Little Black Trenchcoat* and her basket of goodies.

When *Little Black Trenchcoat* reached her grandfather's apartment, she was surprised to find the door unlocked. Knocking softly, she entered the apartment and called out, "Grandfather? Are you here?" She heard a cough from the area of the sofa and she turned towards the figure buried beneath the quilt. "Good afternoon, Grandfather!! I have brought you some goodies!!" As *Little Black Trenchcoat* moved closer to the sofa, she noticed something.

"Oh, Grandfather, your VCR is missing!!"

The Wolf answered, "I prefer the radio anyways...." his voice trailed off.

"Oh, Grandfather, your new computer is missing!!"

The Wolf answered again, "I prefer writing by hand...."

"Oh, Grandfather, your TV, radio, cam corder, CD player, stereo, micro wave, toaster and even your salad shooter is gone!!" *Little Black Trenchcoat* was really starting to become agitated.

At that time, the Wolf threw back the quilt and *Little Black Trenchcoat* recognized him right away. With a gasp, she began to back away. "The better to pawn them my dear!! Now... come over here..." the Wolf began to chace *Little Black Trenchcoat* around and around the room. He finally caught her and placed her into abeyance as well.

Now, it so happened that a nice person was passing by who was named Nikita. Upon hearing all the noise and commotion from the apartment building, she became concerned and entered the building. Approaching the door carefully, she saw the Wolf and his accomplice as they removed the loot from the apartment and placed it in a large black van. She moved back into the shadows and watched them.

She was looking around for something to use as a weapon when she suddenly had a thought, *maybe the owner of this stuff is up there and hurt... maybe they need some help....*. She climbed the stairs quickly and entered the apartment of Walter.

Finding the older man and the young girl, she freed them immediately. *Little Black Trenchcoat* thanked her rescuer and quickly raced down the stairs. Meeting the Wolf once again face to face, she pulled an uzie from beneath her *Little Black Trenchcoat* and cancelled him on the spot.

His accomplice looked on with a blank stare. *Little Black Trenchcoat* approached the van and removed her Grandfather's possessions to be returned to his apartment. The man with the blank stare shrugged his shoulders and began to walk away.

Once order had been restored to Walter's apartment, Nikita made her exit and *Little Black Trenchcoat* and her Grandfather shared the basket of goodies.

On the street, Nikita and the man with the blank stare met up and climbed into the van. As they rode off into the sunset, Nikita turned to him and.....

Aly woke up and rubbed her eyes sleepily. Padding into the kitchen for an Alka-Seltzer, she mused aloud...

"Never again will I read Little Red Riding Hood, eat Chinese Food, then watch La Femme Nikita right before bed time!!"

Plop Plop Fizz Fizz... Oh what a relief it is!!(LOL!!)
